BEHIND THE SCENES OF ARCÉ -EDITION 01

There is something inspiring when the air is buzzing with the energy of people coming together to create. The ideas bouncing off one another, propelling each other forward with the momentum of creativity and excitement. The suggestion of using this prop, trying that pose, putting these garments together, or maybe even "lets shoot this on film". That is the energy we had for our first shoot of arcé.
In the weeks and even months leading up to this moment there were a lot quieter moments to get here. Days spent alone researching, sketching and calculating garments patterns, mistakes on the sewing machine, pin pricks, and faces lit by the blue hue of the laptop screen at night. These moments were slow, independent, and sometimes seemingly in a void. It wasn't full of the hum of people encouraging each step but instead an inner burn of love for a dream and creation.
It was the moments after that nurtured those more lonely steps. The moments when friends and family first try on a handmade garment and their faces light up as they spin in the mirror saying, "I can't believe you made this". Admiring the craftsmanship but even more importantly how it makes them feel to wear each piece. That's when the real magic happens. That's when, as a creative, you allow that tiny whisper in your head to have a moment to say, "hey, maybe we can do this".

Something we've re-discovered lately is that with arcé and most creative endeavors, it isn't just about one person. It's when that idea is shared with the world and the people in it. When it's out of our protective care and others can be a part of it. It's the growing pains but even more so the unexpected beauty of what it brings.
That day everyone laughed, invited their partners to join, bounced ideas off one another, and even started talking about future shoots. No one was there because they were paid, expecting free clothes, or anything for themselves. For our first step this was the most heartwarming thing we could have asked for. Especially when you take the lead in believing in yourself and just trying something.
I admire the full days as Robbert spent day in and day out learning how to improve sewing, how to draw patterns, why certain stitch lines are necessary, how fabrics fall, why you can or can't do x, y, and z. He'd do all this then try to learn some web development basics from me as we worked on this site for you. He'd commute to and from Amsterdam to learn more, meet people in the field, assist on other brand's shoots, and just be open to the world and this experience.

A few weeks before the shoot actually happened Robbert came home and told me (Cera) that his friends wanted to help take the first shoot for arcé. He lit up as they had talked about the possibility to shoot on different film cameras and he already had some inspiration content pulled together. It warmed my heart to hear this since both of them work as creatives in their fields, but what really warmed my heart was when they actually showed up. And I don't mean just showed up to the shoot, I mean with their hearts and energy.
On the day of the shoot we showed up with our first collection and pastries from our new local bakery and they showed up with cameras, film, tripods, backdrops, stands, you name it. They showed up with ideas, passion, and happily made sure each moment of that day we were almost intoxicated from the high of creating this together.

We are proud to present this first edition and will be forever grateful for every community that we get to be a part of. We hope you want to be a part of it too.
